How to use and troubleshoot the SML682BT

Overview

The SML682BT is a karaoke system that supports multiple ways to play and sing along to your favorite music.

You can:

  • Play CD and CD+G discs
  • Play karaoke tracks from a USB flash drive, including compatible MP3+G files
  • Stream audio wirelessly from a phone or tablet using Bluetooth
  • Connect the machine to a TV to display lyrics from compatible CD+G and MP3+G karaoke tracks
  • Connect up to two wired microphones
  • Record your vocal performance directly to a USB flash drive
  • Use built-in disco light effects
  • Adjust microphone volume, echo, and song key

Connecting via Bluetooth

You can connect a Bluetooth-enabled phone, tablet, or other compatible device to the karaoke machine and play audio through its speaker.

Pairing steps

  1. Turn on the karaoke machine.
  2. Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly until Bluetooth mode is selected.
  3. Open the Bluetooth settings on your phone or tablet.
  4. Look for Singing Machine in the list of available devices.
  5. Select Singing Machine to pair.
  6. Once connected, the Bluetooth indicator will stay lit and the machine will play a confirmation sound.
  7. Start playing music from your device.

If your device asks for a passcode, enter 0000.

If you cannot pair the device

  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your phone or tablet.
  • Press STOP/PAIR to restart Bluetooth pairing.
  • If another device is already connected, press STOP/PAIR to disconnect it before pairing the new device.
  • Keep your Bluetooth device within approximately 30 feet / 10 meters of the karaoke machine.
  • Make sure your device supports the A2DP Bluetooth profile.

If Bluetooth connects but you cannot hear music

  • Turn up the volume on your phone or tablet.
  • Turn up the MASTER VOLUME on the karaoke machine.
  • Make sure the correct Bluetooth audio output is selected on your device.
  • Confirm that music is actively playing on the connected device.

Note: Bluetooth sends audio to the karaoke machine. Lyrics or video from your phone will not be displayed on a connected TV through the karaoke machine.


Playing a CD or CD+G disc

The SML682BT can play standard CDs as well as karaoke CD+G discs.

Getting started

  1. Turn on the karaoke machine.
  2. Open the CD compartment.
  3. Insert a CD or CD+G disc and close the compartment.
  4. Press the FUNCTION button until CDG/CD mode is selected.
  5. Press ENTER/PLAY/PAUSE to begin playback.
  6. Use MASTER VOLUME to adjust the music volume.
  7. Connect and turn on your microphone.
  8. Adjust MIC VOLUME, ECHO, and KEY as desired.

When a CD+G disc is playing and the karaoke machine is properly connected to a TV, the lyrics will appear on the TV screen.


Playing karaoke songs from USB

The SML682BT can play compatible files from a USB flash drive.

Setup

  1. Insert a USB flash drive into the USB port.
  2. Press the FUNCTION button until USB mode is selected.
  3. Press ENTER/PLAY/PAUSE to start playback.
  4. Use the navigation buttons to browse songs and folders.

If you play a compatible MP3+G karaoke file while the machine is connected to a TV, the lyrics and graphics will appear on the TV.

For USB playback, the machine supports:

  • FAT32-formatted USB drives
  • USB drives up to 32 GB

A TV connection is recommended when browsing USB folders and karaoke tracks.


Recording your performance

You can record your singing together with the music onto a USB flash drive.

To record

  1. Insert a compatible USB flash drive.
  2. Start your karaoke song.
  3. Press the RECORD button.
  4. Sing along with the music.
  5. Press RECORD again when you are finished.

The recorded audio file will be saved to the USB drive.

To play your recordings, select USB mode and navigate to the REC folder.


Connecting to a TV

Connecting your karaoke machine to a TV allows compatible karaoke lyrics and graphics to appear on a larger screen.

Setup steps

  1. Connect the yellow RCA cable from the karaoke machine's VIDEO OUT jack to your TV's VIDEO IN.
  2. Connect the white and red RCA cables from the karaoke machine's AUDIO OUT jacks to your TV's AUDIO IN.
    • White = Left audio
    • Red = Right audio
  3. Use your TV remote to select the appropriate input, usually AV or Video.

What will display on the TV?

Lyrics can be displayed when playing:

  • CD+G discs
  • Compatible MP3+G files from USB

Nothing will appear on the TV when using:

  • Bluetooth
  • Line-In

Using the microphones

The SML682BT has two microphone inputs, allowing two microphones to be connected at the same time.

Setup

  1. Plug a microphone into MIC 1 or MIC 2.
  2. Slide the microphone's ON/OFF switch to ON.
  3. Adjust the MIC VOLUME using the controls on the machine.
  4. Adjust ECHO if desired.

The microphone volume controls affect both microphone inputs.


Using Line-In

You can connect an external audio device using a 3.5 mm audio cable.

  1. Connect one end of a 3.5 mm audio cable to the external device's headphone or audio output.
  2. Connect the other end to the karaoke machine's LINE IN jack.
  3. Press the FUNCTION button until Line-In mode is selected.
  4. Start playback on your external device.
  5. Adjust the volume on both devices as needed.

A 3.5 mm audio cable is not included.

Note: Video or lyrics are not sent to the TV when using Line-In.


Disco lights

The SML682BT includes built-in light effects.

When the machine is turned on, Light Mode 1 is activated automatically.

  • Light Mode 1: Lights react to sound from the microphone.
  • Light Mode 2: Continuous light show that does not react to the microphone.
  • Lights Off: Press the LIGHT MODE button again to turn the lights off.

Press the LIGHT MODE button to cycle between the settings.


Using batteries

The karaoke machine can also be operated without the AC adapter.

It requires 8 C-size alkaline batteries.

Batteries are not included.

When replacing batteries:

  • Replace all batteries at the same time.
  • Do not mix old and new batteries.
  • Do not mix different battery types.
  • Remove batteries if the machine will not be used for an extended period.

Troubleshooting

No power

  • Press the POWER ON/OFF button.
  • Confirm that the AC adapter is securely connected.
  • Try a different electrical outlet.
  • If using batteries, replace them with fresh batteries.

No sound

  • Turn up the MASTER VOLUME.
  • Make sure the correct function is selected using the FUNCTION button.
  • If using an external device, turn up its volume.

No sound when connected to a TV

  • Make sure the TV volume is not muted.
  • Turn up the TV volume.
  • Make sure the TV is set to the correct input, usually AV.

Lyrics do not appear on the TV

  • Make sure the yellow video cable is connected securely.
  • Make sure the TV is set to the correct input.
  • Confirm that the song being played contains karaoke graphics or lyrics.
  • Use a CD+G disc or compatible MP3+G file.

Remember that nothing will appear on the TV when using Bluetooth or Line-In.

No sound from the microphone

  • Make sure the microphone is firmly connected to MIC 1 or MIC 2.
  • Set the microphone's ON/OFF switch to ON.
  • Increase the MIC VOLUME.
  • Increase the MASTER VOLUME.

USB files will not play

  • Make sure the file is not corrupted.
  • Make sure the file format is supported.
  • Try a different USB flash drive.
  • Make sure the USB drive is formatted as FAT32.
  • USB drives up to 32 GB are supported.

Bluetooth will not pair or connect

  • Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
  • Press STOP/PAIR to restart pairing.
  • Disconnect another paired device if necessary.
  • Keep the Bluetooth device within approximately 30 feet / 10 meters.

Bluetooth is connected but there is no music

  • Turn up the volume on your phone or tablet.
  • Turn up the karaoke machine's MASTER VOLUME.
  • Make sure your Bluetooth device supports the A2DP audio profile.

Missing or broken parts

The box should include:

  • One wired microphone
  • AC adapter
  • Audio/video RCA cables
  • User manual
  • Welcome kit

If an included part was missing from the original package, contact Singing Machine support and have your proof of purchase available.

Replacement microphone

The SML682BT uses a 6.3 mm dynamic microphone with an impedance of 600 ohms.

AC adapter

If you need to replace the AC adapter, make sure the replacement matches the following specifications:

  • Output: DC 9V
  • Polarity: Center Pin Positive
  • Current: Refer to the specifications printed on your original adapter
  • Plug size: Match the connector size of your original adapter

We recommend using the original Singing Machine adapter or an exact compatible replacement whenever possible. Using an adapter with the wrong voltage, polarity, connector size, or insufficient current may damage the machine or prevent it from operating correctly.
